Frequently Asked Questions

About the silk

What's the difference between silk and satin?

Silk is a natural fibre produced by silkworms. Satin is a type of weave — it can be made from silk, polyester, nylon, or any number of fibres. A "satin pillowcase" is almost always polyester; a "silk pillowcase" is always made from silk. The two behave very differently. Satin (polyester) doesn't breathe, traps heat, and gets shinier as it wears out. Silk breathes, regulates temperature, and softens with washing.

Sorelle Luna carries a small accessories range in both silk and polyester satin. The fibre composition is on the care label and on every product page, so you always know which you're buying.

What does "momme" mean?

Momme (often abbreviated mm) is the unit used to weigh silk. One momme equals 4.34 grams per square metre of fabric. The higher the momme, the denser and more durable the silk. Our sleepwear runs 19–22 momme depending on the style. See our About page for the full comparison.

Is your silk real silk?

Yes. The Sorelle Luna sleepwear collection is 100% mulberry silk. The fibre composition is on the care label of every garment and on every product page. Some accessories in the range are silk; some are polyester satin — the product page and care label state which.

Where is the silk made?

The silk fibre is woven in a mill we have visited and audited. The fabric is cut and sewn in a factory whose working conditions we have audited. We don't claim an Italian origin for the silk, and the brand name is not a statement about provenance — it's an Italian word that means sisters, which is the story behind the brand.

Is the silk certified?

Yes. Every silk piece is OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified — tested for harmful substances at every stage of processing. The certificate registration number is printed on the care label inside every garment. You can verify it through the OEKO-TEX label check. See our Care Guide for more.

Will the silk shrink?

Pre-washed silk at 19–22 momme shrinks very little — typically under 2%, and mostly in length. We allow for this in our grading. If you'd like to refresh the fit after years of wear, a gentle hand wash in cool water and a hang dry will usually bring the silk back close to its original dimensions.

Sizing and fit

How do I find my size?

Three options:

  • Use the Fit Finder on every product page — three questions, thirty seconds, a recommended size plus a fit character description.
  • Read the Size Guide, which has the verified supplier size chart for the launch silk short set plus our model's dimensions for reference.
  • Email hello@sorelleluna.com with your usual size, height, and the piece you're considering. We'll tell you which to choose.
I'm between sizes — should I size up or down?

Our supplier's published chart says Chinese sizes run small — "please order one or two sizes up". For silk tops and slips, size up — silk drapes more beautifully when it has a little room. For pyjama bottoms, the elastic gives you a size of forgiveness either way. The Fit Finder flags the choice for you automatically.

Does the silk stretch?

100% silk has almost no mechanical stretch — that is one of the reasons it drapes so cleanly. The elastic waistband on the short set stretches by about 10 cm over the flat measurement. Some pieces include a small amount of elastane for ease through the waist or cuff; the composition is on the product page and the care label.

Will the colour fade?

Dark and saturated colourways may release a small amount of dye in the first wash — wash separately the first time, in cold water. After the first wash, the colour is stable. Silk fades faster than cotton in direct, prolonged sunlight; dry away from direct sun and store out of bright light.

Shipping

Where do you ship?

We ship across the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway, and Switzerland. We don't currently ship to the United States, Canada, or Australia — we're working on it.

How long does shipping take?

Orders are shipped from our warehouse in the Netherlands and deliver in 5–10 working days. You'll receive a tracking link by email as soon as your order ships.

How much does shipping cost?

Free standard shipping on orders from €75. Below €75, the shipping cost for your country is shown at checkout before you pay.

Can I change my order after it's placed?

If your order hasn't shipped, yes — email hello@sorelleluna.com within two hours of placing it. After the order has shipped, we can't change it, but you can start a return or exchange once it arrives.

Returns and exchanges

What is your return policy?

30 days from delivery to start a return or exchange. Free size exchanges. Refund-only returns carry a €5 return label fee, deducted from your refund. See the full policy on our Returns & Exchanges page.

How do I start a return?

Sign in to your Sorelle Luna account and choose the order, or use the link in your dispatch email. We'll send a prepaid return label within an hour.

Are sale items returnable?

Yes — sale items follow the same 30-day window, exchange-first policy as full-price items. The €5 return label fee still applies to refund-only returns.

What if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?

Email hello@sorelleluna.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo. We'll send a replacement at no cost — no return label fee, no restocking charge.

Gifting

Do you offer gift wrapping?

Yes. Add "Gift wrap" at checkout for €5 — your order arrives in a Sorelle Luna gift box with a hand-tied ribbon and a blank card for your message. Gift wrapping doesn't change the delivery time.

Do you offer monogramming or personalised embroidery?

Not at launch. Personalised embroidery is on the roadmap but it isn't available yet — embroidered pieces take a separate production line and we want to be sure the result matches the rest of the collection before we ship it.

Can I include a gift message?

Yes — at checkout, there's a field for a personal message. We'll print it on a card and include it inside the gift box.

Do you ship directly to the recipient?

Yes. At checkout, enter the recipient's address as the shipping address and your own as the billing address. We won't include any prices or payment details in the box.

Care and longevity

How do I wash silk?

Cold cycle, mesh bag, hang dry, no dry cleaner. The full routine is on the Care Guide page. The same routine works for the polyester satin accessories.

How long will my Sorelle Luna piece last?

With the four-line care routine, a well-made silk sleepwear piece should last ten years or more of regular wear. We've tested it ourselves — the wear pattern shows up at the seams, not in the fabric.

Can I repair a piece if it wears through?

Yes. Email hello@sorelleluna.com with a photo and your order number. We'll quote a repair (most seam repairs are €10–25 plus return shipping) or, if the piece is beyond repair, a discount on a replacement.
